Gdansk 2.0

11th of August 2019

After working out at the work-out park (and sharing my spot with children from the neighbouring playground), we (that´s Eric, H (aka Hayder) and Nick from Minnesota) left to Sopot beach at 12:00.

Before my first visit to Poland, I had expectations, which would mostly present themselves in Soviet influences, cabbage, cheap living and cold, introverted people.

If Sopot is anything, it is definitely nothing close to those assumptions.

Sopot – also described as the ¨Polish Riviera¨  – is the community of Gdansks elite (already one of Polands richest cities). Boosting upper class restaurants, flashy cars and the longest pier in the baltics (over 500m) you feel reminded of Monaco or St. Tropez rather than the Baltic coast.

Nevertheless the coastal town has some characteristic features, referring to its baltic location, especially seen in the traditional buildings alongside the promenade.

The four of us spend most of the day at the beach, talking about life, playing frisbee and testing the water for a few minutes, before heading back to the hostel and making some dinner which was semi-successful.

We bought classic Polish dumplings and wanted to make a nice sauce with them. The plan took a hit when we discovered we bought the sweet instead of the savoury version.

Eventually we made our sauce with it anyways and it was not as bad as expected.
