Gdansk 1.0

10th of August 2019

After being on the bus for 9 draining hours I eventually arrived at Gdansk bus station, without an idea where to go and walked around without orientation.

After doing so for 10 minutes I eventually decided to get a (completely overpriced) cab, which guided me with a techno mix of ¨Highway to Hell¨, towards my hostel ¨The Mama´s and the Papa´s¨.

I immediately got greeted by Mama and Papa – the two old-hippy couple who owns the hostel – and it did not take me long to settle in their cozy atmosphere – which had just the right touch of love peace and happiness.

When going to the supermarket to make some dinner, I realised that I am actually not speaking one word polish, which made me feel helpless rude and just uncomfortable – but also happy about the kind and helpful cashier. I decided then and there to learn at least words like hello, goodbye or thank you (edit: I still did not learn those words. edit 2.0: I can now say dziekuje (thank you)).

Eventually I got my groceries and turned back towards the hostel.

There I also met Hayden (mentioned on request and also goes by H.) from Sweden, Eric from Chicago as well as an austrian couple and another swedish guy (whos names I unfortunately forgot). We got into a nice conversation, talked about the affordability of Poland, travelling and many other things, before I eventually went to bed – completely exhausted from the day.
