Driving a scooter in Vietnam is similar to playing a RPG video game.
While exploring an unknown paradise, in which money seems to be way less of an issue than in “real life”, you are constantly on the lookout for the quests and adventures that seem to lurk behind every corner.
And you are always scared that the authorities will stop you for reasons you don’t understand.
With this atmosphere we drove the scooter through the inland of Cat Ba. The sun was shining and I will let the pictures speak for the beauty of this place, which inhabits one of the most stunning landscapes, that I have ever experienced.
Also farms and industrial buildings (which are definitely not build to complement nature) did not make this experience any less memorable and actually gave the scenery a certain “character”.
On our way, Mirte and me explored the hospital cave – an cave in the middle of cat ba island, which repurposed as hospital and many other things – at a certain point even as cinema.

Many things you only think to find in movies are suddenly reality when coming to Vietnam.
Following this adventure, we climbed up cat bas viewpoint. The hike was not very long but led through an adventurous path through – what felt like to me – the Vietnamese jungle.
Eventually our efforts were repaid though with stunning views over cat bas valley, which even reached to some of the incredible rocks rising out of the Vietnamese sea.
After the hike we treated ourselves with a fresh coconut and self-made springrolls by a kioskon the side of the road, before heading back home on our scooter.
I rarely enjoyed life as I did that day:)!
